The Jim Powers YouTube channel recently shared an exclusive video featuring PANTERA’s entire live performance on February 22 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Dive into the electrifying atmosphere of the concert below.
PANTERA, the iconic metal band, delivered a powerhouse setlist for their Madison Square Garden show:
1. A New Level
2. Mouth For War
3. Strength Beyond Strength
4. Becoming
5. I’m Broken
6. Suicide Note Pt. II
7. 5 Minutes Alone
8. This Love
9. Floods
10. Walk

Encore:

This marked PANTERA’s first performance of 2024, kicking off their North American tour with LAMB OF GOD at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida on February 3. Notably, the set included the resurrection of “Floods,” a track not performed since May 2001, originally from their 1996 album “The Great Southern Trendkill.” An early mix of the song was also released on the 20th-anniversary edition of the LP.
In a recent video message, lead singer Philip Anselmo expressed his excitement about the enthusiastic turnout of young fans at PANTERA shows, igniting a renewed passion in him. The band, featuring surviving members Anselmo and Rex Brown, along with guitarist Zakk Wylde and drummer Charlie Benante, is not only headlining major festivals worldwide but also supporting METALLICA on a massive stadium tour in 2024.
The PANTERA reunion, initially reported in July 2022, received the green light from the estates of the band’s founders, Vinnie Paul and “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott, as well as from Rex Brown. This lineup, which includes Zakk Wylde, previously thought not to tour with PANTERA, has generated widespread anticipation.
Anselmo and Brown, in an interview on “The Metallica Report,” discussed the empowering experience of PANTERA’s return to the stage. Anselmo emphasized the evolution from the band’s earlier angry and combative performances to a more reflective and enjoyable stage presence. Both musicians praised the enthusiastic contributions of Zakk Wylde and Charlie Benante to the PANTERA team.
Reflecting on the spirit of Vinnie Paul and Dimebag within the 2023 incarnation of PANTERA, Anselmo conveyed a sense of approval from the departed founders, expressing a belief that they would want the legacy to continue. However, the late Vinnie Paul had consistently dismissed the idea of a PANTERA reunion while he was alive, citing the impossibility of Dimebag Darrell.
Dimebag, tragically killed in 2004, had his longtime girlfriend Rita Haney urging Vinnie and Philip to reconcile in honor of Dimebag. Vinnie Paul, who passed away in 2018, had maintained a strained relationship with Anselmo, partly blaming him for Dimebag’s death.
The PANTERA reunion, against all odds and past disagreements, is now a reality, capturing the essence of the band’s legendary sound and spirit, and resonating with both old and new fans alike.
