SCOWL Withdraws From Welcome To Rockville Due To U.S. Army Sponsoring The Event

The Santa Cruz hardcore band, SCOWL, made a bold move by backing out of Welcome To Rockville. They weren’t happy about the U.S. Army sponsoring the Daytona Beach-based music festival by DWP.

SCOWL’s decision to skip Welcome To Rockville mirrors their earlier choice to say no to an official SXSW showcase for similar reasons.

Here’s what the band had to say:

“We won’t be playing at this year’s Welcome To Rockville Festival in Daytona Beach, FL because of the US Army’s sponsorship.”

This move caught the attention of Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who had this to say:

“Bands pull out of SXSW over U.S. Army sponsorship.

Bye. Don’t come back.

Austin remains the HQ for the Army Futures Command.

San Antonio is Military City USA.

We are proud of the U.S. military in Texas.

If you don’t like it, don’t come here.”

The upcoming Welcome To Rockville festival is set for May 9th-12th in Daytona Beach, FL, with headline acts like FOO FIGHTERS, SLIPKNOT, LIMP BIZKIT, and more.
