Philip Anselmo recently shared exciting news about PANTERA‘s long-awaited comeback to live performances.
The reunited band, with Anselmo on vocals, Rex Brown on bass, Zakk Wylde on guitar, and Charlie Benante on drums, is gearing up to headline major festivals across North America, South America, and Europe. They’re also scheduled for solo concerts and will join METALLICA on a massive stadium tour in 2023 and 2024. For PANTERA fans, this is a monumental moment as it marks the first time in over two decades that the surviving members are back together on stage.
In a recent episode of “The Metallica Report,” Anselmo and Brown discussed PANTERA’s return. This podcast, giving weekly insights into all things METALLICA, is recorded at the band’s base in Northern California.
Anselmo expressed his joy, saying, “Being on stage feels empowering and incredibly beautiful. There’s so much love, and now we can focus on the music without the anger and warlike energy of our youth.” He also welcomed Charlie and Zakk to the PANTERA team, praising their enthusiasm and individual legacies.
Brown was moved by Charlie’s drumming, reminiscent of Vinnie Paul’s style, bringing a tear of joy to his eyes. When asked about the lineup’s connection to Vinnie Paul and Dimebag, Anselmo affirmed, “I believe Vince and Dime would want us to continue the PANTERA legacy. Maybe they’re watching over us, giving us their approval.”
Billboard reported that the lineup received approval from Vinnie Paul and Dimebag’s estates, as well as Rex Brown, who previously hesitated about Zakk Wylde joining. The details of this change remain unclear.
