Sounds Like KIKO LOUREIRO Is Permanently Out Of MEGADETH

The Megadeth saga with guitarist Kiko Loureiro has taken a series of twists and turns, leaving fans in a state of confusion. The drama unfolded in September 2023 when Loureiro announced his temporary departure from the band’s tour, with Teemu Mäntysaari of Wintersun stepping in as his replacement. At that time, even Dave Mustaine expressed uncertainty about Loureiro’s eventual return.

In November 2023, Loureiro dropped another bombshell, revealing that he would extend his leave of absence into 2024. His statement suggested a temporary hiatus, hinting at a potential return as he mentioned a collective agreement with the band to extend his absence.

However, the plot thickened when, in a subsequent interview, Loureiro declared, “due to circumstances in my life, I have taken the liberty of choosing not to be in Megadeth.” Despite these words, neither Loureiro nor Megadeth officially confirmed a permanent departure or Mäntysaari’s permanent inclusion. The narrative remained veiled in passive statements, leaving room for speculation about Loureiro’s future with the band.

In a recent interview with Guitar World, Loureiro provided more clarity, seemingly affirming a permanent exit from Megadeth. When asked about the transition from a temporary to a permanent situation, Loureiro candidly shared his perspective. His initial proposal was to skip the September shows, assist in finding a replacement (Teemu Mäntysaari), and later rejoin the band. However, personal situations with his children necessitated his presence at home.

Understanding the band’s need to move forward, Loureiro acknowledged the impossibility of picking and choosing tour dates. Expressing his realization that Megadeth might perceive him as unreliable for future tours, he decided to take control of the situation, emphasizing the priority of being with his family.

Addressing concerns about transitioning from Megadeth to unemployment, Loureiro remained unfazed. While acknowledging the option to continue touring with the band, he emphasized the importance of his home life and the decision to be present for his children. The guitarist emphasized that his choice was not about escaping Megadeth but about making decisions that align with his values.

The interview leaves fans in suspense about the band’s future lineup, hinting that Loureiro’s departure might be permanent, with Mäntysaari potentially filling the void. However, the possibility of Marty Friedman’s return remains uncertain, adding another layer of intrigue to Megadeth’s evolving story. As the situation continues to unfold, fans are left eagerly anticipating the next chapter, unsure of the band’s direction.
