Release Dates and Production Details
The group’s third album, Like All Before You, will be released digitally on September 20th and physically on October 18th via Casablancas’ independent label, Cult Records. The album was brought to life between the band’s home studio in Venice, California, and Vox Studios in Los Angeles. The Voidz worked with renowned producers Ivan Wayman, Justin Raisen, and SAD PONY, reflecting the broad stylistic scope that has always defined their career. Wayman has worked with pop icons like Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus, Raisen has collaborated with Kim Gordon and Yves Tumor, and SAD PONY has also released music under this alias.
Upcoming Performances
In anticipation of the physical release of Like All Before You, The Voidz are scheduled to perform at Los Angeles’ Orpheum Theatre on October 16th, followed by a show at New York’s Apollo Theater on October 18th. This long-awaited third effort follows their 2014 debut, Tyranny, and its 2018 follow-up, Virtue. Since their last album, Casablancas returned to his most prominent band, The Strokes, releasing The New Abnormal in 2020, which won a Grammy for ‘Best Rock Album’.
New Singles and Tracklist
A new Voidz album seemed imminent when the group released the single ‘Flexorcist’ in October 2023, accompanied by a video featuring the earlier track, ‘Prophecy of The Dragon’. Both songs will be included in Like All Before You. The band described the creative process for ‘Prophecy of The Dragon’: “The track started with a very simple question… what would it feel like if God whispered into your ear ‘you are my most magnificent creature.’ What would that feeling sound like? What would its bassline be?”
They continued, “The response? …from the fiery bones of eternity, the dragon’s voice, awakened after millennia in waiting, spewed forth a sonic fist of impertinence in the shape of a New Pirate anthem, where nothing is what it seems, nor is it otherwise: Prophecy of the Dragon.”
Social Commentary and Tracklist
Last summer, Casablancas entered the debate surrounding The 1975 frontman Matty Healy’s pro-LGBTQ+ protest at a festival in Kuala Lumpur, where homosexuality is illegal. While he supported Healy’s awareness-raising actions, Casablancas commented on Instagram: “I just thought defending him as heroic was a bit white.”
