DAVE MUSTAINE Again Clarifies DAVID ELLEFSON Is Not A Founding Member Of MEGADETH: ‘I Was The Founder’

In a recent chat with LifeMinute, Dave Mustaine once again emphasized that he is the original founder of MEGADETH.

Talking about MEGADETH’s unique style, Dave explained, “There’s a misconception that two people started MEGADETH. It was actually just me at the beginning. There was a bass player who left early on. So from the start, it’s been my vision. When I got booted from METALLICA, I was on my own.”

During an interview with Real Rock 99.3 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, almost a decade ago, Mustaine clarified that David Ellefson wasn’t a founding member because “MEGADETH was already taking shape before I even met David Ellefson.” Ellefson, however, argued that he was “technically” a founding member since he was there when the band decided to switch from FALLEN ANGEL to MEGADETH, as suggested by their then-guitarist Greg Handevidt.

In recent news, Ellefson was let go from the band following the leak of sexually explicit messages and videos involving the 57-year-old musician.

MEGADETH’s latest album, The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!, dropped on September 2 through UMe.
