In a disturbing turn of events involving an assault at an ICE facility in New Jersey, bodycam footage from an ICE agent has revealed a Democratic Congress member physically attacking a federal agent during the incident.
On May 9, a situation unfolded in which Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, along with several Democratic Congress members and activists, tried to breach the Delaney Hall detention facility in Newark. This led to several arrests.
The story gained attention when Alina Habba, an aide to former President Trump and the acting U.S. attorney for New Jersey, shared a post on X, stating that Mayor Baraka had been arrested after trespassing at the ICE facility and ignoring several warnings from Homeland Security Investigations.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) later made things worse by releasing a statement claiming that several congressional members had been observed assaulting personnel at the facility. DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin expressed concern over the incident, saying, “The intrusion of congressional members into a detention facility goes beyond a political stunt and puts the safety of our officers and detainees at risk.”
The situation escalated when bodycam footage from an ICE agent surfaced. It shows Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) confronting federal agents at the facility, yelling profanities, and physically pushing and hitting one of them. In the video, she is heard threatening, “I touch whoever I want, you motherf*cker!”
Conservative personality Benny Johnson shared the footage, calling it “exclusive,” and stated, “The bodycam footage clearly shows Rep. McIver verbally and physically assaulting federal agents after entering the ICE detention facility unlawfully. She even threatens to destroy the careers of the ICE officers involved, saying, ‘You will pay!’ before launching into a profanity-laden tirade.”
Despite the clear footage, Rep. McIver downplayed the incident, claiming that the visit was simply part of her duties as a congresswoman. She and other Democrats involved in the event issued a statement, insisting that they were not storming the detention center but fulfilling their legal oversight responsibilities.
Rep. McIver added, “The Department of Homeland Security’s press release was inaccurate, and they even got the number of Representatives wrong. We were just doing our job, as we’ve done at other facilities like the Elizabeth Detention Center without any issues.”
