Jack Black, the Hollywood star and half of the comedy rock duo Tenacious D, has provided an update on the band’s future following the controversial remarks made by his onstage partner, Kyle Gass, about Donald Trump.

During a performance at the ICC Theatre in Sydney in July, which coincided with Gass’s 64th birthday, Black brought a cake on stage. Gass blew out the candles and made a controversial wish: “Don’t miss Trump next time.” This comment referenced a recent assassination attempt on Trump, who was running against President Joe Biden in the upcoming presidential election. Due to health complications, Biden stepped back from the race, leaving Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate.

Jack Black Addresses Controversy Involving Donald Trump

Gass’s remark sparked controversy in Australia and the US. Although many concert attendees chuckled, several Australian politicians demanded the Prime Minister deport the musicians. Senator Ralph Babet called for Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to denounce Tenacious D and urged Immigration Minister Andrew Giles to revoke their visas and deport them.

In response, Tenacious D canceled their remaining tour dates and left Australia. Jack Black, who initially laughed at the joke, later issued a solemn statement on social media, saying, “I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form. After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”

Jack Black’s Update on Tenacious D’s Future

Almost a month later, Black provided an update on Tenacious D’s future. Speaking to Variety at the Borderlands premiere on August 6th, he said, “We need to take a break. Everybody needs a break sometime. And we’ll be back.” In his initial statement, Black distanced himself from Gass’s remarks, stating he was “blindsided by the statement that was said at the show.” When asked if he remained on good terms with Gass, Black confirmed, “Yeah, we’re friends. That hasn’t changed. These things take time sometimes… And we’ll be back when it feels right.”

Jack Black’s reassurance offers hope to fans that Tenacious D will return after taking time to reflect and recover from the controversy surrounding Kyle Gass’s comments about Donald Trump.
