The release of a bootleg recording of Led Zeppelin’s 1972 concert in Kyoto is rumored to be imminent

During a storming 10-song set on the final night of their Japanese tour, the audio captures Led Zeppelin at the height of their abilities. A newly discovered recording from the crowd at Led Zeppelin’s October 10, 1972 concert in Kyoto, Japan is rumored to be set for bootleg release. A user who has previously shared accurate information regarding Led Zeppelin bootleg releases posted a photo of a flyer advertising a recording of the show on Twitter on Saturday, August 6th, according to Led Zeppelin News(opens in a new tab).

A fourth audience recording of the performance will reportedly be released “soon” by Japanese bootleg label Empress Valley, according to the leaflet. The 1972 Kyoto performance by Led Zeppelin featured 10 songs, including the classics Black Dog, Stairway to Heaven, and Immigrant Song, as well as a medley performance of their iconic riff, Whole Lotta Love. It would follow three previous bootlegs of the show: a two-disc box set titled The Overture and The Campaign, released by Empress Valley in 2018; and a recording titled Evil Spirits in Kyoto, released by another bootleg label named Tarantura/T2K in 2016.

According to Led Zeppelin’s official website, the show’s complete setlist appears below (opens in new tab). A number of Led Zeppelin archival recordings have surfaced in recent years. In June, never-before-seen 8mm footage of the band’s 1975 performance in Landover, Maryland and previously unreleased bootleg audio files of their 1971 performance in Vancouver were posted online. And more recently, high-quality bootleg recordings of a selection of songs from the same Vancouver performance, including Gallows Pole, Stairway to Heaven, Rock and Roll, and an improvised version of Whole Lotta Love, have become available. In July, new footage of the rock legends’ final performance in Berlin with drummer John Bonham, who died at the age of 32 in 1980, was released. The recording captures the band performing Black Dog, All My Love, and Kashmir, among other songs.
