Texas Judge Faces Money Laundering Charges — Democrats Call for Resignation

Tensions are running high in Fort Bend County, Texas, after local Judge KP George was indicted on two counts of money laundering, sparking backlash from his own Democratic Party.

Judge George turned himself in on April 4, 2025, and was released shortly after posting a $10,000 bond. The charges, classified as third-degree felonies, are tied to allegations that he used questionable methods to fund his campaign. Despite the serious accusations, George is standing firm, claiming he’s done nothing wrong.

In a public statement, the judge defended himself, saying the case is politically motivated. He accused the Fort Bend County District Attorney of “weaponizing” the legal system, adding, “These allegations are being pushed without full context, aimed at damaging my reputation and character.”

George further explained that loaning personal funds to his own campaign — and later repaying them — is a legal and common practice. “I’ve always acted with integrity and transparency,” he said, expressing confidence that “the truth will prevail.”

Still, not everyone is convinced — including members of his own party.

Fred Taylor, the Democratic Party Chair in Fort Bend County, didn’t hold back. “I’m very disappointed in Judge George. His actions show poor judgment for someone in his position,” Taylor told reporters. He added that George should resign, saying, “He’s playing the victim instead of taking responsibility. It’s time for him to step down.”

Prosecutors say the charges came after a thorough investigation, stating that the two felony indictments for money laundering were “the result of months of careful review.”

For now, Judge George says he plans to keep serving the people of Fort Bend County while fighting to clear his name. Whether he stays in office — or is forced out — remains to be seen.
