Sammy Hagar has unveiled which Van Halen album will receive an expanded reissue next and hinted at exciting new music from his current band, which is touring in honor of his time with Van Halen.
Leading the Best of All Worlds Tour, Hagar is joined by Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony, Jason Bonham, and Ray Thistlethwaite. The band performs a set that pays tribute to the late Eddie Van Halen, celebrating the iconic music of the legendary guitarist.
In a recent interview with The Bogus Otis Show, Hagar was asked if his current bandmates had considered writing new music together. “Yes. I guarantee it,” Hagar confirmed, though he added with a laugh, “I don’t know when and why because records don’t sell anymore!”
Hagar, whose last two solo albums, Space Between (2019) and Crazy Times (2022), were among the best of his career, lamented the state of the music industry. “You go and make a record nowadays just to lose a couple hundred thousand bucks,” he remarked. “It’s all good – but, you know, I need a tax write-off, so it really helps. I go, ‘Look, I made too much this year… let’s go make a record!’”
Van Halen’s 1995 Album Balance to Receive Expanded Reissue
In the same interview, Hagar revealed that Van Halen’s 1995 album Balance—the last to feature his vocals—would be the next to receive an expanded reissue. The album, which includes hits like “Don’t Tell Me (What Love Can Do),” “Can’t Stop Lovin’ You,” “Amsterdam,” and “Not Enough,” holds a special place in the Van Halen discography.
Hagar was also asked about the 1995 pay-per-view concert, shot in Toronto and aired in Canada and later in the U.S., which was originally scheduled for a commercial release that never materialized due to his departure from the band. “I didn’t know about that,” Hagar replied. “So I’ll bring that up. That’s a very good idea.”
