The list of all Christmas pieces has come to your rescue, and I’m not talking about an ordinary list but a track list from the Metal God himself. The Christmas fanatic Rob Halford has listed his eight favorite Christmas tracks to Louder, and what do you know, the Judas Priest vocalist has listed John Lennon, and Yoko Ono’s ‘War Is Over’ as one of his picks.
If you were curious about Halford’s connection with the late Beatle and his wife, well, here it is. The vocalist not only recorded Judas Priest’s 1980 album ‘British Steel’ in the couple’s home, but as someone who grew up in Beechdale, the band has always held a special place in his heart.
“Judas Priest made ‘British Steel’ in John and Yoko’s old house, so this is particularly pertinent to me,” shared Halford. “But as a kid growing up on the Beechdale, I was and still am a huge Beatles fan. How they went from ‘She Loves You’ to ‘Sgt. Pepper’ and then ‘The White Album’ is just extraordinary. What an amazing journey.”
He continued, “You asked me to pick a song with strong emotion and a moving message; this is it. ‘War Is Over’ is an anthem for Christmas, and the message is as pertinent now as it was in 1971. After all these years listening to this, I never knew it was the Harlem Community Choir singing on it until you told me.”
Halford’s picks have come at the perfect time for everyone celebrating the holiday. These eight songs might be the ideal place to start if you are searching for a Christmas playlist. However, if you’re not in the mood or just over the holiday cheer, ‘British Steel’ is the next best thing. You can’t go wrong with either one!
