Phil Anselmo Shares Dimebag Darrell’s ‘Biggest Dream’ For Pantera

Phil Anselmo, the lead singer of Pantera, recently gave an interview to The Pit in which he discussed the late guitarist Dimebag Darrell and drummer Vinnie Paul’s ultimate goal for the band and its legacy. Pantera has become one of the most influential metal acts, particularly for popularizing the subgenre groove metal. Phil Anselmo on vocals, Dimebag Darrell on guitar, Vinnie Paul on drums, and Rex Brown on bass comprised the band’s most famously successful lineup. Experimenting with heavier sounds on albums such as ‘Cowboys From Hell’ and ‘Vulgar Display of Power,’ they gained widespread recognition.

Pantera disbanded in 2003 due to unresolved issues between band members, despite the band’s success since the beginning of its appearance on the metal scene. The Abbott Brothers, Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul, continued their careers with their band Damageplan after the dissolution. However, Darrell was murdered by a psychotic fan during their 2004 Ohio concert. In 2018, he also passed away from dilated cardiomyopathy and coronary artery disease, while his brother pursued a career with Hellyeah. In the days prior, Phil Anselmo and Rex Brown informed their fans that they would embark on a reunion tour in 2023. They also announced that Black Label Society’s Zakk Wylde will replace Darrell on this reunion tour and that Anthrax’s Charlie Benante will replace Paul on drums.

Since the band’s last tour was 22 years ago, the news from the surviving Pantera members has excited many fans. Others, on the other hand, criticized Pantera’s reunion tour without Darrell and Paul. This reunion tour will be a celebration for all deceased and surviving Pantera members, as stated by guitarist Zakk Wylde in response to this issue. Anselmo stated in a recent interview that Darrell and Paul have always referred to Pantera as their legacy and their path to success. According to the opinion of the vocalist, the pair would like the band to continue under the name Pantera. Anselmo stated that preserving the band’s name would have been Darrell and Paul’s ‘greatest wish.’  Phil Anselmo made the following statement in reference to Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul: “Dimebag and Vince have always desired for this band to be a legacy, to be massive, and to be our own path to success. I believe that Dime and Vince would want Pantera’s legacy and name to live on forever and in everyone’s face. I know this to be true. “Absolutely, dude, that would be their greatest wish.” The interview can be viewed below.
