Jamie xx shares new song ‘Life’ featuring Robyn

Meta Description: Jamie xx joins forces with Swedish singer Robyn for the upbeat new single ‘Life,’ a kaleidoscopic blend of house and techno from his upcoming album In Waves.

Influential producer Jamie xx has teamed up with Swedish singer Robyn on his new song ‘Life,’ an upbeat, kaleidoscopic number drawing upon house and techno influences. Featuring euphoric brass and technically brilliant sound design, the track showcases Jamie xx’s distinctive style and innovative sound. ‘Life’ is the third single from his forthcoming album In Waves, set to release on September 20th via Young. This album comes nearly a decade after his critically acclaimed debut In Colour, which soundtracked an era following its release in May 2015.

Discussing ‘Life’ in a statement, Jamie xx expressed his enthusiasm:

“I made this track pretty fast (for me) and I loved it from day one. When I first heard Robyn’s vocal it was at 6 am after finishing playing at Pacha in Ibiza, it was the perfect moment.”

He continued, highlighting his longstanding collaboration with Robyn:

“Robyn and I have spent time working together and hanging out for some years now, it’s always a joy and always inspiring. I’m so glad and grateful that she is a part of In Waves. Thank you Robyn for bringing this track to life!”

Robyn also shared her excitement about the collaboration:

“I just want to see how ‘Life’ gets people dancing this summer. I can’t wait for that. Jamie is such a brilliant creator, I’m excited to be part of his album.”

With In Colour featuring modern club classics such as ‘Gosh’ and ‘Loud Places’, In Waves has high expectations to meet. However, with the release of tracks like ‘Baddy on the Floor’ featuring Honey Dijon and ‘Treat Each Other Right’, Jamie xx is clearly evolving his sound. The album boasts collaborations from fellow xx members Romy and Oliver Sim, as well as other notable artists such as Kelsey Lu, Panda Bear, The Avalanches, and Erykah Badu on the deluxe vinyl edition, positioning it as one of the most anticipated records of the year.

Reflecting on the new album, Jamie xx described his artistic vision:

“I wanted to make something fun, joyful, and introspective all at once. The best moments on a dance floor are usually that for me.”

Despite fans waiting nearly a decade for a new Jamie xx album, he has remained prolific with other projects. He completed a ten-show residency at South London’s Venue MOT in May and has been involved in various other creative endeavors. It was also confirmed earlier this year that The xx are working on another album, adding to the anticipation surrounding Jamie xx’s future projects.

With the release of In Waves just around the corner, ‘Life’ offers a tantalizing glimpse into the euphoric and dynamic soundscapes Jamie xx continues to craft. Fans can look forward to an album that promises to deliver both introspective moments and dance floor anthems.
