James Hetfield’s Explanation About ‘Screaming Suicide’

Metallica fans are familiar with songs about death and suicide. For example, the songs ‘Fade to Black’ and ‘One’ deal with these themes. However, there is new music on the table right now.

The metal giant’s new album, 72 Seasons, was released on April 14, 2023, after a six-year wait since their previous album, Hardwired… to Self-Destruct. As you can read from the review here, the album tackles a wide range of topics, including love, loss, addiction, and suicide. The song ‘Screaming Suicide’ is a particularly heartbreaking track that deals with James Hetfield’s own struggles with suicidal thoughts.

The frontman has shared a message about the new song ‘Screaming Suicide’ on Twitter. In the statement, Hetfield said that the song is about the ‘taboo word of suicide’ and how it affects everyone.

He continued:

“It’s about the darkness we all feel inside, and how we can’t deny that we have these thoughts. I believe that most people have thought about suicide at one point or another.

The intention of this song is to communicate about the darkness we feel inside, and to let people know that they’re not alone. If you’re struggling with suicidal thoughts, please reach out for help. There are people who care about you and want to help you get through this.”
