Phil Collins has been playing drums since he was only five years old. His passion for music, which started at an early age, made him the drummer and later vocalist of Genesis. However, towards the end of the 1970s, Genesis took a hiatus due to Collins’ family problems. After Genesis, Collins embarked on a solo music career and collaborated with many names. One of the planned collaborations was with Adele.
In the mid-2010s, Phil Collins was going to contribute to Adele’s ’25’ album, but this plan could not be realized due to various communication problems. When rumors of the collaboration spread, Phil Collins revealed that he had never heard of Adele before but had agreed to collaborate with her because he was so impressed by her voice. After being pleasantly surprised, the Genesis icon apparently started digging into her discography and even acquired a favorite song.
Which Adele Song Is Phil Collins’ Favorite?
Phil Collins has had a life intertwined with music from an early age. He had the opportunity to both experience and observe very different periods of music. Among his favorite musicians was a contemporary name, Adele. Adele’s ’21’ album, which made a name for itself with ‘Rolling In The Deep,’ had another song that was Collins’ favorite.
In an interview with BBC Radio in 2016, Collins revealed that Adele’s ‘Rumor Has It’ is his favorite. He shared that the song has a ‘wonderful feel,’ which caught his attention. Pointing to the collaboration that was planned but not realized, Phil Collins humorously said that he had never heard of Adele’s name before, probably because he lived under a rock, but had listened to her songs before without knowing her name.
He explained that he did his ‘homework’ when the possibility of collaboration arose and listened to Adele’s songs. Stating that he discovered how talented she was when he started exploring her discography, Phil added that Adele knew what she was doing and was in control of her work. He also described Adele’s music as fresh.
Collins’ remarks about Adele read:
“I’ve met her in London a couple of years ago with a view to writing together, you know. She asked if I would consider writing with her and then I must admit that having been living under a rock I wasn’t too sure who Adele was, so I did and I mean, she had an incredible success.
I don’t know where I’ve been and I probably heard her stuff without realizing it was her but you know, I did my homework and I just fell in love with this song. I think she is an awesome talent, frankly. She knows what she is doing, in control of it and I think it’s so fresh but this song ‘Rumor’ has such a wonderful feel. That’s the thing that gets it for me.”
