Former FBI Director James Comey Faces Possible Jail Time Amid Growing Probe Into Trump-Related Remarks

Things are heating up for former FBI Director James Comey after an Instagram post he shared raised serious concerns online. Many conservatives saw the post as a cryptic call for violence against former President Donald Trump—and now, the backlash is intensifying.

On May 15, Comey posted a photo on Instagram showing seashells arranged in the numbers “86 47.” For some, this raised alarms: in slang, “86” can mean to eliminate, and “47” is seen as a reference to Trump, the 47th President. The caption, which has since been deleted, read: “Cool shell formation on my beach walk…”

After removing the post, Comey responded to the growing controversy. He claimed he hadn’t realized the numbers could be interpreted as threatening, saying:
“I shared an image of shells from a walk on the beach that I thought had a political message. I had no idea some people connect those numbers to violence. I don’t support violence in any form, so I took it down.”

Despite his explanation, strong reactions quickly followed.

Tulsi Gabbard, now serving as Director of National Intelligence, didn’t hold back. Appearing on Jesse Watters Primetime on Fox News, she said Comey should be held accountable under the law and even face jail time.
“The rule of law applies to everyone,” Gabbard said. “Anyone who makes direct threats against the President, even in code, must face the consequences.”

She also expressed serious concern for Trump’s safety, citing past threats and saying, “We’ve already seen attempts on his life. I truly believe James Comey should be held responsible and imprisoned.”

Others from Trump’s circle echoed her concerns. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that the agency is working with the Secret Service to monitor the situation closely.
“We’re aware of the post and are coordinating with Director Curran and the Secret Service. They’re taking the lead, and we’re ready to assist.”

Taylor Budowich, Deputy Chief of Staff and Cabinet Secretary, also commented on the timing. He pointed out that Trump had just wrapped up a major speech in Saudi Arabia—one that challenged neoconservatives and promised a shift in American foreign policy.
“This disturbing post comes just as the President leads efforts for peace. It shows how desperate and dangerous the Deep State has become,” Budowich said. “Comey’s message is just the latest threat, and Democrats must condemn this instead of looking the other way. We’ll stay alert and strong.”
