David Paich of Toto compares his career to those of Paul McCartney and Elton John

In a recent interview with Rock Candy Magazine, Toto keyboardist David Paich compared his career to that of Paul McCartney and Elton John. David Paich has been Toto’s primary lyricist, keyboardist, and singer since 1977. Paich wrote or co-wrote many of Toto’s hit songs, including ‘Hold The Line,’ ‘Africa,’ and ‘Rosanna,’ during his tenure with the group. Paich is a composer, session musician, and producer in addition to his contributions to Toto’s 17 albums. Recently, he decided to pursue a solo career and announced the release of his long-awaited debut solo album, ‘Forgotten Toys.’ On June 9, he released the first single, ‘Spirit Of The Moonrise.’

Paich released the single ‘Queen Charade’ as the follow-up to ‘Spirit Of The Moonrise’ on July 14. However, as he has only recently begun pursuing a solo music career, the musician doubts the success of his debut solo effort. David Paich stated to Rock Candy Magazine that he had a respectable music career, but that iconic solo artists such as Paul McCartney and Elton John dominate the music scene. Paich stated that McCartney and John have written numerous top 10 hits and are the ‘Olympic athletes’ of music, citing their incredible careers.

David Paich told Rock Candy the following about Paul McCartney and Elton John: “I’ve had a satisfactory career. However, individuals such as Paul McCartney and Elton John breathe their rarefied air. These men are unbelievable. They’ve written 50 or 60 Top 10 hits, which is simply incredible. They are the Olympic athletes of the music world.” David Paich, who is preparing to release his solo debut, “Forgotten Toys,” on August 19, appears anxious about being a solo musician among the most influential artists, such as Paul McCartney and Elton John. Given the success of his previous compositions for Toto, it is safe to assume that Paich does not need to worry about his upcoming works.
