Due to her age, casting directors were reportedly hesitant to cast her. Due to her “old” age, Sadie Sink nearly lost her breakthrough role as Max Mayfield on Stranger Things. In an interview with Fashion Magazine, the actor recalled that casting directors were initially hesitant to cast her because she was only 14 years old at the time. Sink stated, “I begged and pleaded with them for more material so I could show them something new.” She insisted she was “right” for the role of Max, and after a chemistry read with co-stars Gaten Matarazzo and Caleb McLaughlin, she was subsequently cast.
Max and her abusive older brother Billy joined the Netflix series in season two (Dacre Mongomery). In the fourth season, she played a significant role as the character responsible for the revival of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill.” Sink is also well-known for her roles in the Fear Street trilogy and Taylor Swift’s music video for the song “All Too Well,” opposite Dylan O’Brien. Sink said of Swift, “I am so appreciative that she was able to give me such great advice about navigating the music industry as a young woman and about life in general.”
She added, “As a director, she’s just as incredible as you’d expect. She is a force of nature who can accomplish anything she sets her mind to.” The fifth and final season of Stranger Things will be entirely set in Hawkins, Indiana. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, show creator Matt Duffer stated, “We want to revisit a great deal of what we did in the first season.” Many of the original groupings and pairings from the first season have come full circle, which is a pleasant development.
