Tom Hardy teases the progress of Venom 3’s script, which he is co-writing with Kelly Marcel of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Tom Hardy has hinted at the status of the script for the third installment of the Venom film franchise. Sony Pictures launched its envisioned Spider-Man villain cinematic universe in 2018 with the release of the Tom Hardy-starring Venom film. Sony rushed a sequel to theaters in 2021, titled Venom: Let There Be Carnage, in response to the film’s massive box office earnings. Andy Serkis’s film made Woody Harrelson’s Carnage the primary antagonist. The sequel received better reviews and performed exceptionally well in theaters, which increased the likelihood of a Venom 3 sequel.
Venom’s movie future was initially called into question by the post-credits scene of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, in which Tom Hardy was transported to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Eddie Brock returned to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe in a post-credits cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which rendered the scene insignificant. This allowed Sony to confirm plans for Venom 3, despite the fact that the announcement did not include any details about the sequel. Now, Hardy has provided the first hint regarding the development of Venom 3. In a new Instagram post, the franchise star shared a photo of the Venom 3 script’s front cover. Hardy co-wrote the script with Kelly Marcel, who returns to the franchise after writing Venom: Let There Be Carnage. She also served as a writer for the two preceding films. Hardy also obscured the Venom 3 title by drawing the symbiote’s head over it, with the anti-tongue hero’s forming the number “3.”
It appears that Hardy and Marcel have made significant progress on the story and script for Venom 3 if the actor has begun to post about it on social media. Andy Serkis has expressed interest in directing the sequel, but his schedule may prevent him from doing so. Sony has not provided a release date for Venom 3. If the script is nearly finished, production on the sequel could begin next year, and it could hit theaters in 2024. Hardy is the only confirmed cast member to return, although Michelle Williams is expected to reprise her role as She-Venom.
How Venom 3 will connect to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe is one of the major mysteries surrounding the film. After the post-credits scene of Morbius and with Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web on the horizon, there is an opportunity for the film to assist Sony in bringing its plans together. There is also the hope that in Venom 3, audiences will finally see Hardy’s Venom battle Spider-Man. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man does not appear to be involved, but there is widespread speculation that Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man will return to battle Venom. Hopefully, additional Venom 3 updates will be forthcoming soon.
