George Strait and Chris Stapleton Join Forces For A Tom Petty Cover

George Strait and Chris Stapleton performed a duet during Strait’s Saturday performance at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri (July 30). The country superstars performed “You Wreck Me,” a track from Tom Petty’s second studio album Wildflowers, as a cover. “Oh, you destroy me, baby / Strait and Stapleton sang on the chorus, “You break me in two / But you move me, honey / Yes, you do” This was Strait’s first performance at Arrowhead Stadium since 2001. The country music icon shared photos from the extraordinary evening on social media.

Additionally, Stapleton shared photos on social media, including a stage photo with Strait. “It is always an honor to perform with @georgestrait,” wrote Stapleton. In addition to George Strait and Chris Stapleton, Little Big Town and Parker McCollum also performed at the concert.

Strait received 18 new certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America recently (RIAA). Over a dozen of Strait’s timeless songs, including several of his signature hits, were certified Gold, Platinum, and 2x Platinum on Friday, July 15, demonstrating once again why he is known as “The King Of Country Music.” Recently, George Strait re-signed with his longtime label and announced plans to record a new album soon. During an interview with Pollstar in April 2022, Strait disclosed that he had left his longtime record label, MCA Records.

Strait stated, “I just re-signed with MCA Records and I’m ecstatic about that and the fact that they still want me around.” “They are the only record label I’ve ever worked for, and presumably the only one I will ever have. “When the time comes, they can bury me beneath the building.
